Culmstock Primary School Ethos Committee

Who are we?

An ‘ethos’ is the set of ideas and attitudes that is associated with a particular group of people, in this case parents/carers of children attending Culmstock Primary School.

Our aim?

The aim is for the school to be run with active participation of the parents in the life of the school.  This principle is based on the almost universal evidence that a school that embraces parental, family and community input most effectively addresses the learning needs of its children.

What do we do?

We generally meet once a term.  We monitor school activities (both curriculum and non-curriculum) to ensure that an even mix of events are taking place.  We also suggest and try to develop ideas on how we can improve the school ‘journey’ not only for the children but for the parents as well!

What have we done?

Many examples of the work initiated and carried out by members of the Ethos Committee are of a practical, hands on nature.  These include acquiring sponsorship from local companies to enable the redecoration of some of the school buildings; to develop the forest school area including the erection of a purpose-built shed and to tidy the school grounds at regular intervals.  Other suggestions have been the introduction of online payments and improved communications via text messaging.

Who can join?

Absolutely anyone who would like to get involved! Meetings are held once a term and are advertised in the school newsletter.  We look forward to seeing you!
